Report Documents MHS Toll Payments For Big Dig Are Ruinous

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

The 2007 Massachusetts Transportation Finance Commission Report documents that the system for financing the Turnpike is “unsustainable” because the “MHS tolls are effectively paying for all operating and maintenance costs associated with the non-tolled Central Artery” and this illegal diversion is ruining the MTA’s finances and ability to maintain the Turnpike.

MTA Admits Toll Charges Are Inequitable

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

In 2005 the MTA stated:

MTA considers [charging turnpike users for the Central Artery Project (the Big Dig)] a major equity issue that contravenes the equitable policy that underlies MTA’s toll system: the user-fee concept for toll roads.

Check out this 2005 Report of the Executive Office of Transportation and other Important Reports that document that the MTA has known for years that taking 58% of each Toll Payer dollar to pay a Big Dig tax was inequitable and violated the underlying principle of a “user-fee concept for toll roads”.
